What are Your Personal Growth and Development Goals?

Here at Prime Concepts Group, we talk a lot about personal growth and development goals.  In fact, at the end of each week, we each share something new we learned, as well as something we would like to do or learn in the future.  Sometimes these goals are related to our careers, sometimes not.  The point is  continual improvement, which experts agree trickles down and affects all areas of our lives.

In the spirit of personal growth and development, we’d like to showcase two members of our creative team, Krista Flying Out and Paul Badke (pictured third and fourth from left respectively).  This past weekend, Krista and Paul participated in Kansas’ Tough Mudder 2013, which took place in Topeka, Kansas.

According to their official website, “Touch Mudder events are hardcore obstacle courses designed to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie.”  Each Tough Mudder course included 10-12 miles of hills, mud, water, ropes, walls, electric shocks and fire— pretty impressive, huh?

Although neither Krista or Paul had participated in such an event previously, they both successfully finished the course.  No doubt their success is a testament to the smaller personal growth and development goals they’ve been setting and achieving, which include running, cycling, lifting weights and participating in local “boot camps.”

So what can we learn from Krista and Paul?  Never stop improving. Set small personal growth and development goals for yourself on a weekly basis, such as reading for 20 minutes each night, catching up with an old friend once a week or exercising three times a week.  Next, set monthly goals related to your smaller goals, such as completing that book, organizing a get-together for friends or losing 5 lbs.

Finally, set long-term goals for yourself.  Krista and Paul signed up for Tough Mudder months ago and have been working toward their goal since.  Your long-term goal should serve as motivation for your smaller goals, and your smaller goals should prepare you for your long-term goals.  Just remember, never stop improving.
