Taking Action vs. Producing a Result

image concept of a good marketing strategyHere at Prime Concepts we have a very open work environment, which thrives on creativity, innovation and passion. Even as an industry leader, every now and again we have to remind ourselves what our main goal is, and how we can best reach that goal. What’s our main goal you ask?

Great question, our main goal is to help our clients find, attract and keep their customers all while we continue to grow our already robust client base. It’s the “how we reach that goal” that I’d like to focus on for today’s post.  And just FYI, this isn’t something specific to just Prime Concepts, it is much bigger than that; hence why I am blogging about it.

To be frank, people in today’s society are lazy, egotistical, selfish and seeking instant gratification for the absolute least amount of work possible. You know these people. They are the ones that are “so busy” all of the time but you never really know what they do or what they are even working on. Which leads me to my favorite statement of the day, taking action is not producing a result…. Think about that for a second: When you sit down at your computer and start working, are you trying to fill your day with “busy work”, or do you actually have a clear process that you are following to produce a result?

It’s really quite simple. Think in terms of features versus benefits. Do you care about the type of rubber that your shoe soles are made of? Or do you care about being able to walk to your car through the snow without getting your feet soaked and catching a cold? See, it’s the exact same thing in regard to actions and results. Does the Sales Manager at your company care how many prospects you called? Or rather, how many sales you made that day? People want to be compensated for the work they do, but they don’t understand that while in their mind they are slammed for time, the actions they are taking aren’t allowing them to produce the results they could be generously compensated for.

To bring this full circle, we go back to the “how we reach our goal” question that I led this post with. We not only reach our goals, we far exceed them here at PCG based on the mindset that I have discussed above. Every day we attack our projects and action items with the mentality that if it isn’t going to produce an effective result, then no action will take place. Again, this isn’t a rant about our great processes and procedures; this is a blueprint for how we have created a successful work environment. (Believe me, it took a while to work the kinks out and we still stumble from time to time.)

In closing, when you finish reading this don’t fall back into the same mindset as before you read this post. Think of the features vs benefits adage from above and decide for yourself whether you want to produce a result today or simply complete action upon action upon action.

What results are you going to produce today, this week or before the end of the year?
